Where do you feel it in your body?
In this project, I wanted to create a work that spoke about wanting to get to know the interior world of another person, but also knowing that it's never possible to truly know another person.
The central theme to the work is vulnerability - I wanted to capture this idea of peeling back a person. I placed a grapefruit on a podium and then slowly peeled back the layers to reveal parts of the skin. I made Harm and Approval in 2021, and went on to create Goliath two years later. This is a theme that lives in my mind and that I would love to explore further.
This is part of an ongoing series where I explore different organic forms of flesh.
For my reference images, I photographed hands pulling apart the flesh of fruit. This created a very visceral, fleshy texture that formed an interesting juxtaposition with human skin.
