Studio dry
Dry has devoted his practice to pushing the medium of graphite. With experimentation as a fundamental aspect of hyperrealism, a sense of play and precision is kept at the core of his practice.
WELCOME!
Self-taught artist living and working in Cape Town, large-scale drawings in graphite often speak to Isolation, self discovery, loneliness and relationship. Strong motifs of nature, decay and healing are often used to articulate a non verbal feeling. These drawings are hyperrealistic in style and surreal in content – they appear at once lifelike and dreamlike, being neither real nor imagined.
Prints are also a key aspect to the studio. These fine art giclée are high resolution scans of the original works.
The prints are created in limited availability within an edition of 50 or 24. This allows for an accessible collection of Jono’s work as an alternative option to that of purchasing an original work.
RECENT ADDITION
‘Be still’
‘Be Still’ is the most recent drawing made in the studio. Recurring motifs, such as animal heads and horns are common threads within the works. The animal horns appeal to those parts of us that are neither rational nor entirely human. Each is an expression or reflection on the mind or a state of mind.

The creases in the skin are very particular and individual, as is the texture of a body, its curves and folds… I’m not interested in what was originally prescribed, but rather the moments in-between.
